Database Development

Continued development of VFP database I developed during my tenure as CIO of Sutherland Capital Management that managed over 8,000 home security accounts from initial sales call, to system installation, to account servicing
Developed MS Access database to extract customer information from proprietary database system for use in quarterly and annual advertising objectives
Created MS Works and MS Foxpro database that converted a manual Bed & Breakfast reservation system into a fully automated system that handled all aspects of the reservation process

Network Design and Implementation

Designed a WAN for a suntan company to link all five of their stores to one centralized database
Implemented, maintained and documented a 10-seat Windows NT network, as well as a 5-seat Windows 2000 network
Installed, configured and maintained all hardware required by client networks including workstations (configuring for TCP/IP), NIC’s, wiring, patch bays, routers (wired and wireless), bridges, modems (analog, ISDN, DSL and cable), and servers
Responsible for procuring broadband and networking services from outside providers and establishing and maintaining formal service level agreements

Management Consulting, Training and Documentation

Conducted reviews of existing policies, procedures, and operations; audited current technological investments; recommended multiple improvement scenarios; implemented the chosen solution(s)
Developed training manuals for use in classroom-based instruction of office productivity suites and conducted classes for a temporary employment agency and various other clients
Conducted one-on-one training sessions for individuals using financial, educational and productivity software

PC Troubleshooting and Support

Responsible for ensuring client systems were updated to the latest OS patches, virus definitions, and application patches
Performed routine data backup and recovery operations both on individual workstations and servers, as well as data migration when upgrading entire systems
Maintained user access lists and passwords
Provided hardware troubleshooting and upgrade operations as required
Acted as first-call support when clients encountered any information technology-related problem

Website Design

Designed and deployed an e-commerce website for a musician/artist allowing him to sell his music directly to the public
Designed and implemented an e-commerce website for a seller of art prints and set up a credit card processing account allowing him to sell his prints online and at shows
Designed, implemented and maintained a website for cooperative apartment building to manage their tenant and corporate obligations and disseminate information to shareholders

Sutherland Capital Management, NY, NY April, 1993 - December, 1997

Chief Information Officer

Responsible for entire PC environment of three business operating units in five geographical locations. Created a custom information system using VFP 3.0 to automate all marketing, sales, installation and service functions for the 8,000+ accounts of our home security division located in Charlotte, NC. Developed export routines to integrate data files with several third-party billing programs, as well as automated reconciliation procedures to ensure all databases and program were properly synchronized. Designed, implemented and maintained a 50-seat Novell Netware 4.x LAN and WAN, utilizing ISDN and Frame Relay communications links. Directed the entire implementation of the computing center for a new office in Greensboro, SC, including planning and installation of wiring closets, network planning and installation, server installation, software deployment, training, and remote access to all aspects of the network from all existing business sites. Communicated with CEO regarding all aspects of my performance on a regular basis.
